• Choosing Apartment Furniture On A Budget. When you move into a new apartment, one of the most exciting things is buying new furniture! However, when you're on a budget, it can be difficult striking a balance between apartment furniture you love and what you can actually afford. Here are some tips and things to consider to help you achieve a great look without breaking the bank.

Decide on a color theme. Before you even get started shopping for apartment furniture, take a few minutes to sit down with a pen and paper and actually think about what you're looking for. Oftentimes painting the walls of an apartment - if your landlord is amenable - can greatly enhance the look and feel of it, and you won't need a whole lot of furniture to tie your look together. So first decide what colors you want to paint your walls - one bold color is usually plenty - and then consider what complimentary colors would work for your furniture.

Get furniture in a set. Not only will purchasing several pieces together make for a more cohesive look in an apartment, but you can often get a good discount at large furniture stores if you offer to buy several pieces in tandem. Go for variety in order to get the most function and use of your pieces: a couch, coffee table, armchair and side tables can often be purchased together, and the matching wood and upholstery patterns will eliminate the need to purchase cushions or rugs to tie together the room.

Keep it clean. Though technically not part of furnishing your apartment, you should invest in some good furniture cleaning products when you first get your pieces. Regular cleaning and polishing will not only make your overall apartment look neater, it will greatly lengthen the life of your furniture, particularly upholstered pieces, and this means that even economical furniture can maintain a look of higher quality.

Shop around. If you still find that you need a few furniture pieces beyond your set - for example, a lamp, desk, TV center, etc. - look beyond the normal forums of the furniture shop. Consider online classifieds or look through your local newspaper. Thrift stores often have furniture departments, and you may find something that you like. If you find a piece that could use a bit of TLC, you then have the option of upholstering or repainting it to match your existing color scheme.
